Our Winter Routine

Cold and dark days may be what some, like my older sister in Alaska, eagerly await, but for the rest of us, it can be hard to find our groove. However, with the right routine, we can not only find balance but also embrace the gloomy season with a sense of calm and contentment. Just like on a rainy day, we can lean into the low-energy vibes and create a cozy atmosphere that warms our souls. Take note from our current winter routine to help you find your flow and make the most of those long, dark days.

The Early Evenings

As darkness arrives earlier, take the opportunity to wind down and embrace the nightfall. Ending your evenings earlier than usual allows for indulgence in activities that bring comfort and joy. Being in bed earlier, makes for great movement through our bedside stack of books, reading in bed is something we like to add more of during the winter. One book that never fails to lighten the melancholy tones of winter nights is The New Yorker Encyclopedia of Cartoons. Its various lighthearted takes on our world will transport you to a place of laughter and levity. If you’re looking for a change of pace, try journaling or sketching to tap into your creative side.

Embracing Hibernation Mode During the Winter

When we arrive home after a long day, slipping into a cozy pajama set when I get home is another winter habit I end up working into my routine. Transitioning to comfortable clothes earlier in the evening sets the tone for a leisurely night ahead. Allow yourself to fully embrace the cozy vibes as you revel in the comfort of your own space.

Wellness in the Winter

Maintaining a workout routine during the winter months can be challenging, but it’s essential for both physical and mental well-being. If you’re a gym member, we like to add more trips to the sauna during the cold months. This invigorating experience will warm you up, help eliminate toxins, and even boost your immune system, fighting off those pesky winter colds. On days when leaving the house seems impossible, you can still get your blood pumping with simple exercises like jumping jacks, push-ups, squats, and simple ab workouts, or try out one of Jessica Richburg‘s yoga videos on youtube, we love the self-care yoga featured on our recent short list. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a grueling training session – even 20 or 30 minutes of movement can work wonders in combating winter blues.

Rediscover the Art of Connection

In a season where going out might not be as appealing, take this opportunity to slow down and reconnect with distant family and friends. Our winter routines include setting aside time for handwritten letters. and some nice evening calls catching up with distant family and friends. These moments of connection will fill your heart and create a sense of togetherness and warmth.

Our Winter Self-Care Rituals

Like the sauna, embrace the warmth of a steamy shower infused with essential oils. This simple act can transform your bathing routine into a luxurious experience. Winter often tends to dry out our skin, so be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and spend your evenings moisturizing to keep your skin glowing and hydrated. While dry brushing is part of our year-round routine, we love it especially during the colder months for exfoliating dry winter skin while enhancing blood circulation and promoting lymph flow/drainage to release toxins.
