5 Simple Ways to Add Warmth to Your Living Spaces

Jake Arnold for Parachute Home

A cozy and warm living space can make a huge difference in the overall  feel and comfort of your home. If you’re looking to make your living areas more inviting, take a look at our five simple ways to add warmth to your spaces.

1. Layer Your Textiles

Adding layers of textures and textiles can instantly create a warming atmosphere. Start by layering different blankets, pillows, and cushions on your sofa or armchair. We love the look of a textured throw overtop a sofa to completely change the look of your room. As well as textures, we like to bring in fabrics like velvet or mohair to add a touch of richness to the space.

2. Use Warm Lighting

The right lighting can make a significant change to the atmosphere of any room. For this season (and personally all year-long) opt for warm-toned lighting rather than cooler tones. Using softer bulbs with a warm glow, or consider adding textured lamps to create a cozy ambiance. An added bonus if the lamp comes with dimmers, allowing you to adjust the lighting to create the perfect atmosphere for various moods and occasions. And if you’re not currently looking for new lighting options, bringing in candles or tapers is a great way to get the look without completely changing your space.

3. Embrace Natural Elements

Bringing the outdoors inside can add warmth and a sense of tranquility to your living spaces. Incorporate natural elements such as wooden furniture, plants, or flowers. Wood, in particular, adds a sense of warmth and richness to any space. You can also consider decorating with dried flowers, pine cones, or rustic elements (that can be forged from your backyard!) to create a more cozy and seasonally appropriate space.

4. Display Personal Memories

Displaying personal finds and photographs can not only add a personal touch to your living spaces but also make them feel cozier. Create a gallery wall with your favorite family photos or hang up vintage frames with hand-me-down artwork. These personal touches will not only warm up the room but will also make it feel more homely.

5. Introduce Warm Colors and Patterns

Incorporating warm colors and patterns is an easy way to add warmth to your living spaces. For bringing in a warm welcome year round, choose paint colors in warm tones like earthy browns, soft oranges, or warm yellows for your walls. If repainting is not an option, use warm-colored throw pillows or curtains to bring in those rich tones of warmth. Creating a cozy atmosphere not only improves the overall look of your home but also enhances your well-being and comfort.
